"A key with a mummified snake wrapped around it."
— Inventory description

The Snake Key (ヘビのカギ hebi no kagi?) is an item in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.[1] As its name implies, it is a key with a deceased snake wrapped around its stem. In addition, it has a big letter 'S' on the bow. The Snake Key can be obtained after Lucas Baker invites Ethan Winters to come to the party at the testing area (barn). According to Lucas, the key will help in find two keycards that he had hidden around the Main House, in which they are needed to gain access to the barn.

The key returns in "Bedroom" as an important item that Clancy Jarvis needs to get in order to fully escape the Master Bedroom and from Marguerite Baker.

Purpose[]

Main game[]

The Snake Key opens 3 doors in the game. Firstly, right after finding it in the Dissection room, you can use the key on the door downstairs from the Morgue Entry area that leads into the Back Passageway and into the Meat Storage Room. Back upstairs in the Main House, you can use the Snake Key on the doors to the Kid's Room, which is Lucas' old bedroom, and the Master bedroom in the Main House which will lead the player to the Keycard (Blue) and the Keycard (Red) respectively. All 3 doors have a dead snake attached to the front.

Bedroom[]

The Snake Key opens the door beneath the bed in the Master Bedroom which will lead to the end of the scenario.

Location[]

Main game[]

The Snake Key is retrieved from inside Deputy David Anderson's headless body in the Dissection Room of the Processing Area.

In both the Japanese versions of the main game, the Snake Key is instead found in close proximity to Anderson's corpse, which is also depicted as being fully intact.

Bedroom[]

The key is found in a birdcage in the Storage room, requiring the use of a shadow puzzle to open the lock.
